The unique egg-shaped Hong Kong Space Museum is one of the most famous landmarks in Hong Kong. It mainly comprises of Space Theatre, the Hall of the Cosmos, and the Hall of Space Exploration. There are about a hundred exhibits in the two exhibition halls, predominately interactive, that enable visitors to learn through a series of entertaining and educational experiences.

Over 70 per cent of the Hong Kong Science Museum’s 500 exhibits are hands-on, meaning you can literally play around with a broad spectrum of interesting topics, including robotics, virtual reality and transportation. Be sure to check out the 22-metre-high twin-tower Energy Machine which, when activated, triggers a series of displays to produce spectacular audio-visual effects demonstrating various forms of energy.

You can’t really go to Hong Kong without visiting the Big Buddha (Tian Tan Buddha) Cable cars motor over the mountainous terrain of Lantau Island, Hong Kong, during their 5.7-kilometre journey from Tung Chung to the Ngong Ping plateau. The 25-minute ride offers a picturesque panoramic view of the island with the Tian Tan Buddha perched in the background. One of five large buddhas in China, the Tian Tan is made from 202 pieces of bronze, weighs 250 tonnes and stands at 34 metres tall. It is named after the pedestal on which it sits; it is a replica of the Temple of Heaven in Beijing. Surrounding the base of the Buddha are six smaller bronze figures, collectively known as ‘The offering of the six Devas’. Flowers, incense, a lamp, ointment, fruit and music are all offered to symbolise the six perfections: generosity, morality, patience, zeal, meditation and wisdom. It is believed all six traits must be mastered before enlightenment.

An enchanting old funicular railway, The Peak Tram takes you from the Central district of Hong Kong Island, right up to the top of Victoria Peak. The entire journey offers superb sights spanning Victoria Harbour and the changing cityscape. Arriving at the top, you’ll discover incredible panoramic views over Hong Kong, uplifting mountain-top walks, and great shopping, cafés and restaurants. The Peak Tramway opened in May 1888, becoming Asia’s first cable funicular. Since then, the Peak Tram has endured wars and Hong Kong’s relentless development. It’s a famous part of the city’s history.
